FAQ - Florida dog training and dog behavior > Board and Train program > What skills will my dog learn during Board and Train program?

Search the FAQ for entries containing:

Each dog is different and our clients' needs are different as well. We treat each situation on an individual basis and fulfill our clients' individual requests. Also, we evaluate the whole situation and the dog first during the Evaluation. Dogs have different learning styles and they learn at different speed.

If your dog has no experience with any training we start with the basics. If your dog already has a good obedience training foundation and you'd like to take your dog to a more advanced level of training, we will teach your dog some more advanced skills.

We offer different Board and Train program options (BASIC, ADVANCED & TOTAL FINE-TUNING).

Some of the skills we teach during our 3-week Board and Train program (TOTAL FINE-TUNING):

  • Focus work
  • Name recognition
  • Building dog's vocabulary and communication skills
  • Releasing from a command
  • Watch me
  • Sit (sit means a dog sits until released)
  • Automatic sit (a dog sits automatically by a handler's side when a handler stops walking)
  • Down (down means a dog is down until released)
  • Place
  • Wait (no door bolting, rushing through any doors)
  • Stay (staying until released)
  • Long distance stay (30 feet and more)
  • Come when called
  • Walking on a loose leash without pulling
  • Greeting people politely
  • Confidence building
  • Training with distractions
  • Impulse control exercises (a dog learns how to be patient and how to wait for various things)
  • Acquiring proper social skills and being exposed to positive new experiences (PROPER socialization experiences)
  • Introduction to retrieving
  • Distance work
  • Introduction to off-leash work
  • Advanced off-leash work
  • Solving existing behavioral problems
  • Treadmill training for dogs
  • Tricks (NOTE: Tricks are not just "parlor tricks" to show off to your friends. Tricks are skills just like any obedience skills and they teach your dog how to think.)
  • and more (we discuss the specific training goals and needs with our clients during the Evaluation).

We teach both voice and hand signals commands.
