FAQ - Florida dog training and dog behavior > Potential clients > I just have one or a few small issues that I want to talk to you about. Can I just call and talk with you for a few minutes?

We are all interested in solving problems as quickly as possible. Perhaps an analogy will help to explain our philosophy regarding quick solutions to "small issues".

If a patient with a fever goes to a doctor and the doctor immediately prescribes a medication without asking the patient about the "whole picture", including other possible symptoms, the medication might work temporarily, but the root cause of the fever might remain and possibly even cause a worsening of the patient's condition.

Your dog's well being is very important to us, and we always do an initial Evaluation first to determine the problem, or "diagnose" it, if you will, and THEN develop a course of "treatment" to cure it. Many times, dog owners BELIEVE that their dog needs a certain "treatment" to improve its behavior, when in reality the dog may need something completely different. Often, dog owners go from one"specialist" to another in search of quick, easy answers. They can end up needlessly spending a lot of time and money without having their dog's problems permanently corrected. The Evaluation provides a mechanism for us to develop a course of training and/or behavior modification which will insure that your dog experiences desired changes in behavior which are long-lasting rather than quick fixes.

Finally, just as it usually takes some time for dogs to develop bad habits, it usually takes some time for them to "unlearn" those bad habits and replace them with good ones. We work with both your dog AND you to help fine-tune those elements of your relationship that need improving so that you and your dog can enjoy a well-balanced, harmonious life together.
