FAQ > Board and Train program > I've heard that if you send a dog to board and train, the dog learns how to obey only the trainer, but will not obey the owners. Does your training transfer to owners?
Yes, our training will transfer to you, because instructing the owners and their dog at the end of the board and train program is ALWAYS included. We want your dog to graduate with new skills and for you to have the confidence and knowledge that will help you to maintain all the skills you dog has learned.
The stories you have heard refer to "trainers" who are either unprofessional, inexperienced, unknowledgable, or possess some combination of those characteristics. As a result, some people waste money sending their dog to a board and train program and only realize that skills won't transfer when the dog returns home without any instruction having been given to the owners. In this case, the dog may revert to previous bad behaviors simply because the dog didn't generalize the new behaviors. This happens because the training was not really completed, as it didn't cover all important aspects.
At Fine-tuned Canines we train dogs and we also instruct Clients. Client instruction is included in our Board and Train program, as is maintenance training. When your dog finishes the Board and Train program, we work closely with you and your dog to transfer all the skills your dog has learned, and to teach you how to be an effective leader who can communicate with your dog in a clear way.
